Senior Pastor Rick Hammett

Richard Hammett graduated from the University of Missouri at Columbia and completed his seminary training at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C.  He has served churches in the Kansas City area his entire ministry.   His interests include travel, history and the arts.  He has served as a tour host on many trips to the Holy Land and other parts of the world.

Rick believes strongly in the centrality of worship in the life of the church.  He therefore seeks to bring creativity and relevancy to the worship experience.  He has served on numerous boards at the district and conference levels with an emphasis in New Church development.  He frequently consults with others about building programs and capital campaigns.

Rick says, "The past is the foundation upon which we build for the future to which God calls us.  As a result, we must make sure that as a church we look to the future and reach new generations with the Good News of God's love."

Associate Pastor Rev. Dennis Stone

Dennis graduated from Southwest Baptist College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology.  He has done seminary work at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Central Baptist Theological Seminary, both in the Kansas City area; he is currently doing course work through Saint Paul School of Theology.  An ordained Southern Baptist minister, Dennis left that denomination in 1997 after 23 years of ministry to churches in Missouri.  During those years, Dennis served in the areas of education, youth, music, and pastoral care.

In 1998, Dennis began serving in the United Methodist Church.  He had this to say about his new denomination:  "I have found a new church home.  The thing I appreciate most about the United Methodist Church is its openness to people and its diversity.  The motto, 'Open Hearts, Open Doors, Open Minds,' is very appropriate.  It affords people the opportunity to ask theological questions in a non-judgmental environment.  It affirms the role of women in ministry and actively seeks to involve persons from different ethnic backgrounds in leadership and church membership.  These are things I have believed in for a long time and I am happy to see a church live them out."

Dennis added, "I believe relationships are the key...relationship with God and relationships with those around us.  While I believe that church involvement is important, I am interested in a person's motivation for being part of a church.  I believe our purpose as a church is to strengthen our connection with God and those in the faith community...in order that we might share the good news of Jesus Christ with those around us...our families, friends, classmates at school, neighbors, work colleagues and acquaintances."

Dennis and his wife, Cathy, have five children and seven grandchildren.

Program Director Patsy Schmutz

Patsy  serves as our Program Director.  She helps the congregation provide opportunities for people of all ages to grow in their faith through Christian Education, outreach and fellowship activities.  Patsy also coordinates with many community groups who meet at North Cross, such as The Christmas Store, the Symphony Guild, Parkinson Exercise, Mommy & Me, TOPS, Tai Chi for people with Fibromyalgia, Paint for Fun, and Wood Carvers.  Patsy has been a member of North Cross for 32 years, and joined the staff in 1992.  She bases her ministry on John Wesley's Rule: "Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can".

Youth Director Vickie Linch

Vickie  is a 1980 graduate of Winnetonka High School and has an associate's degree from Penn Valley Community College.  She has been a member of North Cross for the past 29 years and has served on various committees and boards during those years.  She married her junior high sweetheart, Henry, (whom she met during youth group at North Cross) in 1982.  They have two very active and terrific teenage boys.  Vickie has always had a commitment to children and youth.  She has been a director of a day care facility, owned and operated her own home daycare for 5 years, active with the Boy Scouts of America for over 18 years and served as a youth sponsor for the past 6 years.  As Youth Director, Vickie strives to help each youth to attain and experience their own "personal relationship with God" through teaching, programming, service projects, retreats and trips.  She is a firm believer in two things - 1. "It takes a village to raise a child" and 2. "what we invest in our youth and children today is what will be returned to all of us in the future".

Children's Director, Rev. Glenda Callicott

Glenda graduated from Northwest Missouri State University with a BS in Home Economics with an emphasis in Child Development and Family Relations.  She did one year of graduate work in Counseling and Psychology, then seminary work at St. Paul's Theological Seminary in Madison, New Jersey.  Consecrated a diaconal minister, with an associates degree in Christian Education, Glenda answered the churches call to be ordained a Permanent Deacon in 2000.  Glenda is married to Mike and has three grown wonderful daughters.  Children and teaching the Bible are Glenda's life work and passion.  "But Jesus called the children to him and said, 'Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as thee.  I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.'   Luke 18:15-17

Secretary, Mary Alice Morrissey

Mary Alice is a native of West Virginia, and attended West Virginia University and West Virginia Wesleyan College.  She and her husband, Ed, have two daughters - Melissa, who is married and lives in Minneapolis, and Jenny, who is a senior at DePauw University in Greencastle, IN.  Mary Alice and Ed lived in Saudi Arabia for 81/2 years during Ed's career with TWA.

Her interests are reading, needlework and traveling.  She teaches an evening class in an English as a Second Language program, and recently had a student pass the test to become an American citizen.

Treasurer, Jackie Whiston

I've been a member of North Cross since Christmas of 1988.  My husband, Glenn, and I are members of the Friendship Sunday School class.  Our daughter, Stacy, and son Kyle are active in the Youth program.  Glenn and I were married at North Cross by Rev. Ken Lutgen in April of 1989.  I have served on the Worship and Children's Ministry committees, enjoyed leading/helping with youth and children's Sunday School.

I began my career in accounting before leaving high school.  I worked with the postal service for 10 years then stopped to raise my children.  I returned to the accounting field and went back to school and have a two-year business degree and an accounting clerk certificate from Maplewood's College.  I worked for the City of Pleasant Valley for three years as their Accounts Payable Clerk until this opportunity came about.  North Cross is a wonderful church family.  I enjoy serving this congregation for that very reason.  Let me know how I might serve your needs.
