The Message of our Windows

**************************************

Symbols tell a story.  In the early church, symbols were often the way the faith was communicated to one another...it was the way faith was taught.  From the simple drawing of a fish in the dirt...to stained glass windows, symbols have been a way to share and teach the faith.

The North Cross sanctuary is filled with symbols.

The theme of our windows is the Life and Ministry of Jesus.

Text Box: The Triumphant entry of Palm Sunday is shown in the palm branches draped across the city gates of Jerusalem.
Text Box: The Teaching Ministry is depicted in the Open Bible and the flame showing God's Inspired Word in ancient days and in the words of Jesus.
Text Box: The Healing Ministry of Jesus' miracles is symbolized with the two fish and five loaves of bread.
Text Box: The Baptism is depicted with the multiple symbols of the descending dove, three drops of water (the father, Son, and Holy Spirit) and the XP Symbol, a monogram for Christ.
Text Box: The Nativity or birth of Jesus is depicted by the Star which lit the sky over Bethlehem.
Text Box: The Annunciation -Symbolized by the three trumpets - Mary receives word that she will bear a son and is to name him Jesus.

Text Box: The Indwelling or arrival of the Holy Spirit is depicted by the twelve spirit-filled disciples going forth in the flames of Pentecost to serve, even as Jesus served.
Text Box: The Ascension is symbolized through the rays coming forth from the tomb.
Text Box: The Resurrection is depicted by the women discovering the empty tomb.
Text Box: This window reminds us of the crucifixion and death of Jesus through the draped cross.
Text Box: Symbols of the Lord's Supper, often called the host and the cup.  The stalks of wheat and the grapes remind us of the simple symbols of food and drink, symbols reminding us of the nourishment brought to our lives when we share life with Jesus.
Text Box: Jesus was the Messiah who offered himself as Servant.  The XP above the pitcher and bowl, remind us of his washing of the disciple's feet at the Last Supper.
